Harkila Key Collections

Renown for its high-quality, high-performance gear, Harkila has dominated the European shooting market since they began exporting their quality gear across the continent and beyond in the early 1990’s. As a Swedish company, they originally designed quality shooting gear for moose hunting in the harsh, cold climate of Scandinavia. As Harkila have continued to perfect their craft, they have created key collections to suit the hunting needs for countries across northern Europe including the UK, Germany, and France. Harkila utilises the world renown GORE-TEX® technology along with their own unique weather combating technologies they have developed over the years, including their hugely successful Harkila Weather System® membrane, a windproof and waterproof technology that has been specifically designed for hunting.

Below we’ve broken down some of the key collections from Harkila which we supply here at Philip Morris and Son.

The Pro Hunter Collection

Possibly the most widely recognised and legendary range from Harkila is the Pro Hunter collection. Since the first Pro Hunter suit was launched almost two decades ago, the range has continued to evolve and now is designed for all types of hunting in harsh conditions. The Pro Hunter collection not only utilises GORE-TEX® membrane but also CORDURA® and AIRTECH™ fabrics in developing their elite quality hunting gear. CORDURA® is a synthetic material produced using nylon that is both waterproof and water repellent, it’s designed to last and withstand long term wear and is more durable than other synthetics such as neoprene. AIRTECH™ is a unique textile that combines extreme durability with great comfort. It is a soft, breathable, wind-resistant, water and dirt repellent fabric that compliments CORDURA®, it’s used in both canvas material and mesh lining fabric.

Here at Philip Morris and Son, the Pro Hunter Endure Jacket and Pro Hunter Endure Trousers are our best-selling hunting combination. Although the suit isn’t the most lightweight, it is by far the most durable and hardwearing, enduring just about any obstacle in the field from thorns to barb wire. The GORE-TEX® membrane is attached to the inner fleece liner but is not joined to the outer fabric (it’s constructed from a combination of CORDURA® and AIRTECH™), by not joining the membrane to the outer fabric it makes the canvas very quiet, almost silent, which exactly what you need from high performance stalking apparel. Every minor detail of the Pro Hunter Endure Jacket has been carefully thought through, with practicality and comfort at the forefront. The jacket arms are designed to be wider, with a raglan sleeve at the back to allow for greater freedom of movement when shooting. The Pro Hunter Endure Trousers pair perfectly with the jacket, and for the more traditional hunter, you can opt for the Pro Hunter Endure Breeks.

Mountain Hunter Collection

The Mountain Hunter range has been designed for active hunters who like to be on the move, dealing with rough mountainous terrain and changeable mountain weather. This collection focuses on creating waterproof and windproof hunting gear which is more lightweight and suitable for high physical activity. The classic Mountain Hunter Jacket has been developed using a GORE-TEX® membrane which provides the windproof and waterproof protection. The jacket is robust and breathable, and features a durable water and dirt repellent fabric. The jacket boasts a wealth of pockets that makes it very practical and versatile for all adventures. You can pair the jacket with the matching Mountain Hunter Trousers which again utilises a GORE-TEX® membrane along with CORDURA® reinforcements in the most exposed areas to protect against difficult terrain and changeable weather.

The Mountain Hunter Hybrid Jacket is perfect for strong winds and lighter showers, offering strong breathability while remains very silent. It’s even more lightweight than the classic Mountain Hunter Jacket and has matching Mountain Hunter Hybrid Trousers which are incredibly practical with an array of pockets and designed with a more contemporary style in mind. Whether you prefer the lighter style of the Hybrid range or the durability of the classic range. The Mountain Hunter collection is great for British shooters in the autumn season, with exceptional protection against the unpredictable weather while remaining lightweight and breathable.

Driven Hunt Collection

Harkila’s successful Driven Hunt range utilises their own HWS® (Harkila Weather System) membrane along with Thermo Poly Shield™ Fill wadding to make hunting possible in extreme snow and harsh cold temperatures. Thermo Poly Shield ™ Fill has been specifically tailored by Harkila for the Driven Hunt range to provide maximum warmth retention, it’s been developed to retain body heat yet still be lightweight and silent when stalking.

The Driven Hunt portfolio really raises th­e bar when it comes to clothing that can withstand sub-zero temperatures. Harkila rigorously tests all its products to ensure that they can withstand the temperatures and environments which they’ll be used in. The Driven Hunt collection features some excellent apparel such as the Driven Hunt HWS Insulated Trousers and the Driven Hunt HWS Insulted Jacket. Both are lined with thick 120g Thermo Poly Shield™ Fill wadding and feature the Harkila Weather System (HWS®) membrane for guaranteed rain and wind protection. This makes the Driven Hunt suit ideal for static hunting in colder autumn and winter months. It’s not just great in snow but also handles sleet and rain well, not only will this combination keep you well insulated and protected from the elements, but has a variety of built-in practical features that provide efficiency when out in the field. Such as multiple functional pockets, low-noise magnetic closures, a sewn-in reflective armband on the jacket and detachable bib and braces on the trousers.

Although the primary focus of the Driven Hunt range is protection in sub-zero environments, it isn’t just harsh winter temperatures and terrains where the Driven Hunt collection excels. Another excellent combination is the Driven Hunt Flannel Shirt and Driven Hunt Insulated Waistcoat, its ideal for cooler autumn months when the temperature begins to drop. The Driven Hunt Insulated Waistcoat is a warm, padded gilet, filled with thick Thermo Poly Shield™ wadding along with a wool inner lining. It makes an excellent outer layer during autumn when paired with the Driven Hunt Flannel Shirt.

This classic checked flannel shirt is crafted from a soft polyester and wool blend, it’s hardwearing and naturally temperature regulating. The shirt is designed in a classic fit and finished with suede collar trim detail. The Driven Hunt Flannel Shirt is a quality investment that’s not just functional for hunting, it can also be worn for casual leisure purposes too.

Stornoway Collection

For the more traditional shooter, Stornoway is the perfect choice of apparel. The two key pieces from the collection are the Stornoway Shooting Jacket and Stornoway Shooting Breeks. The range has been crafted from a super soft yet stretchable fabric designed with a printed tweed pattern. The suit is lightweight in style, very comfortable to wear and the brushed finish is an excellent final touch. Unlike your traditional tweed shooting suits, the Stornoway collection is fully waterproof and windproof as they feature the Harkila Weather System (HWS®) membrane. The suit is designed in a classic fit with a layer of Thermo Poly Shield™ Fill inside to retain warmth. Much like all of Harkilas innovative jackets, the Stornoway Shooting Jacket boasts a number of practical pockets, but the key feature of the jacket is it's waterproof and windproof protection while remaining lightweight, breathable and suitable for the traditional shooter. If you’re looking for something lightweight with excellent protection from the elements but a little less traditional, then the collection also features the Stornoway Active Smock and Stornoway Active Trousers which features a modern twist on the classic tweed look.

Retrieve Collection

One of our personal favourites is the Retrieve Jacket which is part of the Retrieve Collection. The Retrieve Jacket is a traditional, yet stylish shooting jacket, and uses both HWS® and Thermo Poly Shield™ technology. We love the Retrieve Jacket because not only is it exceptional for hunting, it also looks great and can be worn when you’re out the field too. The Retrieve Jacket is crafted from a hardwearing cotton blend with a soft-touch peached finish. The inner lining is styled in classic Prince of Wales check, with a layer of lightweight Thermo Poly Shield™ padding, providing warm insulation while maintaining high breathability.

Waterproof, windproof, insulating, breathable, durable and stylish, it really does tick all the boxes when it comes to investing in a core shooting jacket which doubles as a casual country jacket. You can pair your Retrieve Jacket with the Retrieve Trousers, for a stylish, modern, yet practical shooting suit.

The Retrieve Collection is more than just the jacket and trousers, the range also features the hardwearing Retrieve HSP Pullover, an excellent midlayer for retaining warmth. The Pullover features the HSP (Harkila Storm Pro®) membrane which makes the product both breathable, windproof and provides excellent warmth retention. The jumper is made from a quality wool blend and features a high neck, these two elements also add to the retention of warmth. The range also includes the popular Retrieve Insulated Cardigan, which is a warm wool blend cardigan with Thermo Poly Shield™ lining on the torso. The cardigan works well as a midlayer when needed or on its own when the days are still sunny. The collection is also made of a range of accessories including various hats and gloves to pair with your Retrieve Jacket.
