Barbour are very well known for their waxed and quilted Jacket, but what they are less well known for are their wool and breathable jacket, despite making some exceptional quality garments.

Barbour’s woollen range, particularly the ladies range has some exceptional styles, that are made of high quality lambswool, often incorporating cashmere, angora or even silk, to give a real luxury finish. With wool jacket there are many grades, and whilst they all start off with the sheep, the proesses of treating and dyeing the wool must be right in order to keep the luxury feel. Barbour use on the finest finished wool to keep the feel of the end product as perfect as possible. The obvious advantage of these jackets is their warmth. During the last couple of very cold winters we’ve seen demand for Barbour Wool coats soar as people have needed jacket for a really cold day.  Another nice aspect of the Barbour wool jacket range is how they have used traditional styles, such as the duffle coat, and A-line cuts, but added a modern twist and a bit more shape to make them both flattering and practical. With woollen styles ranging from short cut jackets to full and ¾ length the range offers something for everyone, and in a great range of colours, and always with the fantastic soft finish associated with high quality wool.

Another aspect of the Barbour range that they haven’t previously been famed for is their High tech breathable garments. Fabrics like wool and wax suffer from not being machine washable, and for many potential purchasers, particularly when practical is more important than fashionable, breathable and machine washable are now 2 must haves on the check list.

For the first time ever Barbour have teamed up with Gore-tex for the autumn winter 2011 range, to produce a range of about a dozen an incredibly high technical specification. By incorporating Gore-Tex fabric technology into some of the classic Barbour cuts, they have produced an exceptional range of breathable jacket that are amongst the most technically brilliant ever made by Barbour.
